Ganja Gazette
What you read here is nobody’s business. Something is still counting it.
This paper writes about cannabis, and about faith, and often about both at once. Reading that is a private matter, and in some places a risky one. So this page is unusually blunt about what is measured and by whom.

The thing you should know first
Jetpack is made by Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com. It is connected to this site and several of its parts are switched on. In plain terms that means Automattic:
counts your visit and which articles you read, sees your IP address when its brute-force protection checks a request, holds the email address of anyone who subscribes through it, can promote our posts as paid advertising through its Blaze product, posts our articles automatically to social accounts, and syndicates our published posts into WordPress.com’s public feed.
None of that is hidden or unusual for a WordPress site. It is also not obvious, which is why it is in the first section rather than the last.
If you would rather not be counted, a tracker blocker or a private window will stop most of it. We will not treat you differently for it, and nothing on this site is withheld from readers who block us.
What we collect directly
- What you type into a form: your name, email address and message, on the contact, newsletter, advertising and fundraising forms.
- Newsletter subscriptions, which are your email address and whether you opened something.
- Advertising and fundraising enquiries, including the business details you give us.
Comments are closed on every article, so there is no comment data on this site at all.
Beyond that, the web server keeps ordinary records as pages load: IP address, browser and device, which page and when.
Why the subject matters here
Cannabis is legal in some places and not in others, and reading about it alongside religious questions is the kind of thing a person may not want attached to their name. We take that seriously.
- We do not build reader profiles, and we do not try to work out who an individual reader is.
- We do not sell, rent or trade reader or subscriber information. Not to advertisers, not to anyone.
- We do not require an account to read anything.
- Subscribing tells us your email address and nothing about your views.
The honest limit on all of that is the section above: the analytics that count page views are Automattic’s, not ours, and their handling is governed by their policy rather than this one.
Everyone who can see anything
- Namecheap
- Hosts the paper and carries its mail. Can see everything stored here.
- Automattic
- Runs Jetpack. Visit statistics, IP addresses through its protection module, subscriber email addresses, automatic social posting, the Blaze advertising product, and syndication of published posts. The largest recipient by some distance.
- Fluent Forms
- Runs the contact, newsletter, advertising and fundraising forms. Submissions stay on our own server.
- FluentSMTP
- Sends our mail through our own domain, so no outside email platform handles it.
- Ameen Systems
- Built and maintains the site over a cryptographically signed connection.
No data broker, and no advertising network beyond Automattic’s own Blaze. Beyond that list, information leaves only where the law requires it, or where someone’s safety genuinely demands it.
How the paper is written
- Articles here are produced with substantial AI assistance, under human editorial direction. A person decides what runs, edits it, and answers for it.
- Nothing you send is fed to an AI service. Form messages, subscriber addresses and enquiries are not passed to any external AI system and are not used as training material.
- No decision about a person is automated.
Nothing here is medical, legal or religious advice, and none of it should be read as an inducement to break the law where you live.
How long things are kept
- Form messages
- 24 months after the matter is closed, then deleted
- Newsletter subscription
- Until you unsubscribe, then removed
- Advertising and fundraising records
- As long as accounting rules require
- Jetpack statistics
- Held by Automattic on their schedule, not ours
- Server logs
- 30 days, then discarded
- Backups
- Rotated on a 30 day cycle, so a deletion takes one cycle to become final
What you can ask for
Ask what we hold, ask for a correction, ask to be removed, or ask us to stop emailing you. Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link that works first time. Write to privacy@ganja-gazette.com. We reply within thirty days and there is no charge.
This paper is written for adults and is not directed to anyone under 21. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.
Changes
When practice changes, this page changes and the date at the top changes with it. If a Jetpack module is turned on or off, the first section changes with it, because that is the part that actually affects a reader.
